Blog-In Cinema

I'm a big fan of the cinema. My bf and I will frequently be first in the queue when a new film comes out, so I thought I may as well do a page on what we're watching.

A Walk Among The Tombstones

Tagline: People are afraid of all the wrong things.

113 minutes
Cast: Liam Neeson, Dan Stevens, David Harbour

This isn't a film I'd usually go to watch, but I had a gift card. So what the heck.

Liam Neeson, despite his accent which you can never quite place until he gives up on it, is the same as always. Gruff, hunky (prr) and devastating to anyone around him who gets in his way. It's not a huge reach from most of his characters, but it's what he's good at, so why change?

Other characters you squint at, thinking, I know him from something, what was he in? He was in that other thing on BBC, you know, that drama about that husband and wife with the thing? No? I can't remember either. There's probably a reason for that. You can't help but feel like this is a remake put on by a Secondary School. The actors, apart from Neeson, don't seem to fit into their characters. I certainly wouldn't place Dan Stevens as a drug lord (and I haven't even seen Downton Abbey). He seems to be the least violent person you've ever met in your entire life. It would be like The Rock playing a Tooth Fairy.

...Wait.

After a steady start, it feels almost like a roller coaster which boasts to be the longest ride, but you spend most of it chugging up a hill waiting for the good bit. The good news is, when you reach the top of that hill, it does keep you going.
The thing about this film is that it lets you imagine the gore it never shows. Your imagination becomes the creepiest part of the film, which is sometimes a good thing. You never really see anything, but you can imagine the horror.

It got a decent 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, which I agree with. It's certainly not the best nor the worst film in the world.

Would I spend £8 to watch it again? Nah. Wait until it comes out on DVD.
